Indian Emergency Medicine in 2011

Indian emergency medicine is set to drastically change in 2011. Some of the oldest organisations associated with EM in India have already started processes necessary to take EM to the mainstream in the fastest way possible, both for patient care, as well as, for education.

As details are flowing in, we are noting that our pioneers have initiated the biggest EM revolution to happen in Asia. With the celebration of EM getting official recognition (Read our previous article), long gone and dead, this seems to be what India needs.

Docs Apathy Kills Bijapur Medico - Times of India

An agitating doctor, speaking to EmergencyMedicine.in, said that his colleague's death was simply due to the lack of immediate emergency care. He said that it was unfortunate that there was nobody trained in the field of emergency medicine or trauma management, at any of the hospitals they took him to. "We need doctors trained in emergency medicine to manage all our emergency patients. It took hours just to discover that he had head injury. Nobody even knew how to transport him in the ambulance", he screamed.

He said that the agitating doctors would write to the Health Minister to upgrade all emergency departments with new equipment, as well as, doctors trained in emergency medicine.
