The Early Management of Trauma Course is one of the best trauma courses available in the our country. The EMTC is based on the ATLS® guidelines (certified ATLS courses are unavailable in India)

Which are the other trauma courses available in India ?

The EMTC is a 3 day program which is held twice a year at Pushpagiri Medical College at Tiruvalla, Kerala (previously conducted at Christian Medical College at Vellore, Tamil Nadu.) There is limited intake of 25 per batch. Reservations must be made at least 6 months in advance if a seat is to be ensured. The course is open to doctors, interns, emergency medical technicians and nurses.

The course fees is Rs:2000/-
EMTC textual material will be sent to the candidates in advance so that they can prepare for the course. The course consists of the following:
- Pretest of 50 MCQs at the start of the course
- Lectures by the faculty of CMC, Vellore (Depts of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Nursing, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and others)
- Interactive discussions with the faculty
- Hands on experience for every candidate with airway management, needle and tube thoracostomy (chest tube insertion), cricothyroidotomy, jet insuffalation, pericardiocentesis and other procedures (all procedures are trained on cadavers)
- Hands on experience on intubation and airway management using mannequins
- Log rolling, cervical and spinal immobilization techniques
- Splinting and limb immobilization techniques
- Core skills of trauma resuscitaion (A,B,C, fluid resuscitaion, etc)
- Universal precautions
Case scenarios are given to every candidate to learn trauma management skills
Post test consists of 50 MCQs and a viva voce
The pass mark is 85% in both theory and practicals. Only those who pass will get the certification. Failed candidates will have to take the course again
