Many would be aware of the recent changes in workforce issues in the NHS. Most trusts are facing problems recruiting junior doctor grades. Now, it is not uncommon to see representatives from various UK based organizations and also Locum agencies actively seeking potential candidates from other countries including India.
So who are the potential candidates? This has not been clarified fully. However, the buzz from the grapevine is that
1. People who have already completed the PLAB exam stand a very good chance.
2. The college (CEM, UK) is prepared to sponsor candidates who have successfully completed MCEM.
3. People holding other UK PG qualifications, like MRCS/MRCP/DRCOG/MRCPCH etc, may approach their respective colleges to request sponsorship. This is more like the previous ODTS scheme.
Whether these doctors would get the opportunity to go into a training grade or not is the question yet to be answered. Either way, this may be a good opportunity for people (post MCEM) wishing to pursue an FCEM to get that vital 'UK experience' box ticked to add yet another feather to their cap!
