Biological warfare has been the talk of the world of terrorism ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the US and the subsequent anthrax letters. Biological Warfare is defined as the employment of biological agents to produce casualties in man or animals or damage to plants.

According to recent estimates atleast 17 countries are involved in Biological Warfare development programs, including the US and UK.(although present programs are touted as being only defensive). The current policies of many countries including the US and UK are to use the bio weapons, after chemical weapons fail and before the use of nuclear weapons.

Advantages of using bio weapons include a capability to cause large numbers of casualties with minimal logistical requirements. Perpetrators can escape long before Bio Weapons cause casualties. It takes time to identify a bio attack esp. with newer agents. However the truth remains a succesful bio weapon defence can be mounted if ED physicians are more aware.

What do you think are the most succesful and the most advanced bio weapons available today?

there are no major poison controls available in india, forget about bio weapons control... so it would be nice if we could each write about one bio agent (more if you like) telling their symptoms, and preventions and treatment. atleast we can be prepared if not the govt. of india.
